Overview
The film and television industry is one of the most exciting and growing sectors in the world’s economies. This masters course is designed to provide participants with the necessary skills to work in such a global, dynamic industry in a number of fields such as studio operations, production development, marketing and branding, audience intelligence, and international markets and regulations.
The programme places a strong emphasis on the global dimension of the film and television sector and related screen industries, including the US, China, the UK and other nations and regions.
You will have access to in-house experts who are engaged in cutting-edge industry-related projects, and also to the expertise and insider knowledge provided by our industry partners. This unique combination of expertise and industry links and opportunities makes the programme contemporary, relevant and an excellent primer for employment in this sector.
In particular, the programme provides students with working knowledge and understanding of real-life current industry dynamics including:
- the place and role of film and television industries within a wider network of production and consumption (from studio and independent financing to ancillary industries, and from new technology to working practices)
- key regulatory frameworks that inform and shape production locally and globally
- the relationships between film/television makers and producers/studios and related labour practices
- the emergence of new technologies for consumption of film and television products and their adoption and use by both audiences and film/television makers
- the need to collect, analyse, synthesise and present information and ideas leading to industry solutions
Alongside formal teaching and learning opportunities, the programme addresses the individual needs and aspirations of all students by ensuring all participants are be able to work on a year-long special project on an industry area/topic of specific interest to them. This will help you develop materials and activities that will help them demonstrate to industry employers the skills and potential they can bring to their organisation and projects.
