The curriculum in art education requires 130 credit hours and prepares students for positions as teachers of art in the public and private schools, grades kindergarten through twelve. The program places emphasis on theory, methods, materials, processes, and practice teaching in Illinois schools. For teacher education requirements applicable to all curricula, see the Council on Teacher Education.
In order to be recommended for licensure, candidates are required to maintain a UIUC cumulative grade-point average of 2.5, content area course GPA of 3.0, and professional education course GPA of 3.0 (A=4.0). Candidates should consult their art education advisor or the Council on Teacher Education for the list of courses used to compute these grade-point averages.
