The graduate program in French Studies reflects the many positive developments that have occurred in its midst over the past several years, including the addition of excellent new faculty in the areas of the Enlightenment and history of the book, socio-linguistics, ethnic studies and second language acquisition. Our program is designed to enhance interdisciplinary methods of teaching and research and to channel graduate studies into innovative areas of concentration. Our program provides graduate students with an excellent graduate education, while helping them to proceed to examinations promptly and to complete doctoral dissertations well within normative time. While literature is a common denominator for all the faculty in French Studies, each member of our faculty is committed to an approach that links literature to some other discipline; history, philosophy, religion, film studies, the history of ideas or psychoanalysis.
Course Work Requirements
A total of 50 applicable credits are required for the Master in Arts of French. 40 of those credits (normally 8 courses) must be taken in 400- and 500-level course work.
Time Frame
Students are expected to complete ALL requirements for the MA in six quarters. Beyond the sixth quarter, students will no longer be eligible for Teaching Assistant positions.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 Prospective graduate students must meet the following minimum requirements: Hold a baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S.1or its equivalent from a foreign institution; Have earned at least a 3.0 grade-point-average (on a 4 point scale) for the last 90 graded quarter credits or 60 graded semester credits. Other English Language Requirements: 580 paper-based TOEFL.
