國家地理是一個對我們雅思閱讀能力提高很有幫忙的網(wǎng)站，上面有很多關(guān)于環(huán)境和人文的文章，難度和雅思閱讀比較接近，可以做為我們課余閱讀訓(xùn)練很好的素材。下面選擇一篇源自國家地理的文章，舉例子來說明一下。這篇文章的內(nèi)容是關(guān)于氣候變暖的，我們簡單選擇其中一些詞匯來解釋一下。
Its there on a monitor: the forest is breathing. The numbers are running surprisingly low for the beginning of the 21st century: around 360 parts per million, ten less than the global average. Thats the trees doing. Basking in the sunshine, they inhale （吸入的意思，吸入空氣等時常用的一個好詞，我們平時使用take in這個短語是可以替換這個詞的）carbon dioxide and turn it into leaves and wood.
中間段落省去，結(jié)尾段如下：
Who can complain? No one, for now. But the problem is that scientists cant be sure that this blessing（好的事情，我們常用good thing或bad thing等來表示好事壞事，但比較地道的表示法是blessing or curse，即我們所說的福禍，是不是聽起來更書面？）will last, or whether, as the globe continues to warm, it might even change to a curse if forests and other ecosystems change from carbon sinks to sources, releasing more carbon into the atmosphere than they absorb. The doubts have sent researchers into forests and rangelands, out to the tundra and to sea, to track down and understand the missing carbon.
