Are you interested in working as a counselor in a school setting? Earn a combined bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degree in school counseling in just five years, and speed your way to New York State certification and a career as a school counselor.
What You’ll Learn
Delve into the human mind through the Psychology, B.S. in small-sized classes on theories of personality, abnormal psychology, and more. New York Tech’s degree offers you plenty of flexibility through electives, and minors, or even prepare for entry into medical school.
After three years of undergraduate studies, students who have established a record of academic excellence may apply to transition into our graduate school counseling program. Our CACREP-accredited M.S. in School Counseling is nationally recognized for the quality of its faculty and the preparation of its graduates to meet criteria for provisional certification as a school counselor in New York State.
You’ll gain a broad foundation on prevalent topics in school counseling today, including leadership, group counseling, working with special needs students, college counseling, and school violence prevention. The program’s flexible class schedules are offered in a blended format on weeknights and weekends only, with no weekly face-to-face classes in order to fit into your busy schedule. You’ll also acquire the hands-on experience you need through a practicum and internships under the mentorship of a tenured school counselor in a pre-K–12 school setting.
