The Health Information Management major prepares students to work in the health information management profession which focuses on health-care data and the management of health care information resources. The profession addresses the nature, structure, and translation of data into usable forms of information including the electronic health record for the advancement of health and health care of individuals and populations.
Health information management professionals collect, integrate, and analyze primary and secondary health-care data, disseminate information, and manage information resources related to the research, planning, provision, and evaluation of healthcare services. HIM professionals are an integral part of the planning, implementing and utilization of electronic health record systems.
Health Information Management professionals work in multiple settings throughout the healthcare industry. These include the continuum of care delivery organizations; hospitals, multispecialty clinics and physician practices, long-term care, mental health, and other ambulatory care settings. The profession has recently seen significant expansion in non patient care settings, with careers in managed care and insurance companies, electronic health record vendors, consulting services, government agencies, education, and pharmaceutical companies.
The B.S.H.I.M. is offered in two formats the traditional campus-based program and an online program. The traditional campus-based program is a two plus two program with completion of general education core curriculum and program prerequisite coursework during the first two years. Following application and acceptance into the program, the final two years consist of the professional coursework reinforced with a professional practice experience assignment in a hospitals or health care related organization. The online program is offered to traditional students who have completed the general education core curriculum and program prerequisite coursework and those who have already completed an associate degree in health information or other degree. The courses in this format are offered via web-based instruction, independent study, and a professional practice experience.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 Applicants must have completed a high school. Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) minimum score of 550 (paper-based test) or 213 (computer-based test), or 78 total score (internet-based test) with the following 3 out of 4 minimum section scores: 19 in Reading, 19 in Listening, 19 in Speaking and 18 in Writing; International English Language Testing System (IELTS) minimum score of 6.5 with at least a 6.0 in each section.
