Texas State’s dance program prepares professional performers and choreographers and certifies teachers for the public schools. Students explore multiple genres of dance, learning to contextualize theory and practice in educational, professional, and community settings. The curriculum emphasizes the role of dance as catalyst for artistic expression and a means for developing a global perspective. Graduates work in public and private schools, private studios, and professional dance groups. Some have gone on to pursue advanced degrees, receiving additional training for the profession or preparing to teach at the college or university level.
BFA in Dance with emphasis in Performance and Choreography: Minimum required: 120-121 semester credit hours
This degree is designed for exceptionally talented students interested in pursuing careers as dancers and choreographers. A heavy emphasis is placed on technique and composition courses, although a broad spectrum of theory courses is also required. Students must have and maintain a 2.5 GPA, and audition for admittance into the program. Students are expected to perform each semester and showcase their own choreography regularly.
BFA in Dance with emphasis in Pedagogy (single field): Minimum required: 120-122 semester credit hours

Students are required to take Curriculum courses and be a Student Teacher in a public school during their senior year.
BFA in Dance with an emphasis in Pedagogy (dual field): Minimum required: 130 semester credit hours
Same as the "Single Field" degree, but students will also be certified in a second teaching field of their choosing.
