SIU is an important part of the culture of the entire Southern Illinois region. Graduate students in the School of Music are part of that cultural landscape – and have been for generations. We offer the Master of Music degree, with various concentrations. We’ll help you find the right path for your career, and we’ll provide the resources to put it all within reach.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSES:
The MM in Vocal Performance is designed for the classical singer interested in recital, oratorio and opera. It is the usual preparatory degree for one wishing to pursue a DMA in Voice Performance and university teaching. Courses in Vocal Pedagogy, Vocal Literature, and Music History are combined with the music core of Theory and Bibliography. The culminating project is a traditional voice recital. MM Vocal Performance majors must have an undergraduate degree in music.
A foreign language diction exam will be administered along with music theory, oral skills, and music history during the first week of your first semester. These exams may require you to take remedial courses which will not count toward your graduate coursework.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 Applicants must have completed 2.7 (on a grading scale with 4.0=A; approximately a "B-" average) on the last two years of bachelor’s coursework; 3.0 on all previous graduate work (approximately a "B" average). English Language Requirement: 550 on the paper based TOEFL; 80 on the internet based TOEFL; 6.5 on the IELTS; 5.0 on the iTep Academic Plus Exam; C1 required on the Cambridge English Exam.
