SIU is an important part of the culture of the entire Southern Illinois region. Graduate students in the School of Music are part of that cultural landscape – and have been for generations. We offer the Master of Music degree, with various concentrations. We’ll help you find the right path for your career, and we’ll provide the resources to put it all within reach.
STATEMENT OF PURPOSES:
The MM-Opera/Musical Theater Concentration is designed for students wishing to enter the field of opera and musical theater or wish to advance to study at the doctoral level. This may be of special interest to those opera singers wishing to do “crossover” work between opera and musical theater or light operetta. This field of study will be designed using a bridge between the School of Music and the Theater Department.
Academic coursework in music history, theory and bibliography is complimented by in depth study of voice, acting, diction, and dance. The student will be required to be in one opera or musical theatre production a year. These productions and the final recital will demonstrate an integration of musical and dramatic skills.

為來自中國的學生設計 Applicants must have completed 2.7 (on a grading scale with 4.0=A; approximately a "B-" average) on the last two years of bachelor’s coursework; 3.0 on all previous graduate work (approximately a "B" average). English Language Requirement: 550 on the paper based TOEFL; 80 on the internet based TOEFL; 6.5 on the IELTS; 5.0 on the iTep Academic Plus Exam; C1 required on the Cambridge English Exam.
