An accelerated Masters of Science (M.S.) degree in Mechanical Engineering and Energy Processes allows qualified undergraduate SIU MEEP students to take up to 12 hours of graduate-level credit courses (400 or 500 level) – either during their senior year, or with the start of the second semester of their junior year. These courses are in addition to regular undergraduate courses.
The graduate-level credits earned as an undergraduate are transferable to the graduate program. This initiative is another way to attract our outstanding undergraduate students into the University’s nationally recognized graduate program, and allows students the opportunity to finish graduate degree requirements at an accelerated level.
Requirements
Students with senior standing and a GPA of 3.5 or higher will be permitted to participate in the program. They will be allowed to take up to six hours of graduate credit in each of the fall and spring semesters, An outstanding junior student is also allowed to take one course for graduate credit in the second semester of their junior year and then additional extra credit as a senior.
Approval is needed from the Department Chair. These courses are credited only if students are beyond the 127 hours needed to earn an undergraduate degree, and are not required courses for receiving undergraduate degree.
There is no application fee for students seeking permission for the program. The 12 hours of credit will transfer once students achieve graduate status.
Students interested in this program should make an appointment with Dr. Rasit Koc, the department chair, to discuss their options. Students interested in pursuing an accelerated degree should begin working as quickly as possible to be accepted in the program, and identify their thesis research area and faculty member.

為來自中國的學生設計 Applicants must have completed 2.7 (on a grading scale with 4.0=A; approximately a "B-" average) on the last two years of bachelor’s coursework; 3.0 on all previous graduate work (approximately a "B" average). English Language Requirement: 550 on the paper based TOEFL; 80 on the internet based TOEFL; 6.5 on the IELTS; 5.0 on the iTep Academic Plus Exam; C1 required on the Cambridge English Exam.
