Speed and accuracy is a must for anyone in journalism today. In a world of tweets, Tumblr and viral videos, knowing how to communicate in the digital realm is a primary focus at SIU.
It is also the primary focus of SIU's student-run news outlet, the Daily Egyptian. Upon enrolling, students will have the opportunity to hone their reporting and writing skills while building a portfolio that can land them a fulfilling job post-graduation.
Jackie Spinner, former SIU alumna and Daily Egyptian editor, enjoyed a career as a reporter for the Washington Post and a correspondent to foreign wars. She talked a bit about the importance of the DE in leading to her impressive career.
Students in the news specialization receive vital training in: Identifying; gathering; processing; interpreting; writing; and sharing.

News-editorial students are encouraged to take web editing, photo, video and audio classes.
Classes in: writing for mass media; news reporting; journalism law; ethics; editing; graphic design; photography; web design; and investigative reporting.
prepare our news-editorial students to compete with journalists nationwide in getting top internships and jobs in major markets. In 2016 alone, eight staffers for the Daily Egyptian, SIU's student-run newspaper, had internship offers from the Chicago Tribune, the Star-Ledger (New Jersey) and the Daily Herald (Arlington Heights, Ill.)
COURSES
The News-Editorial specialization requires 33 credit hours from the following courses, plus, three approved JRNL electives (two must be at 400 level).
JRNL 310, 311, 312, 332, 335, 434, two of either 313, 337, or MCMA 396 and three JRNL electives (two must be at 400 level).

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Students must have completed a high school or equivalent. Academic Requirements (grade point averages are on a 4.0 scale and are calculated by SIU): 26 credits or more at another college/university - submit college/university transcripts showing a GPA of 2.0 or greater on all coursework; 0-25 credits at another college/university - submit high school AND university/college transcripts showing 2.0 GPA on all coursework; 5 Passes on the GCE O or A level exams (under the Cambridge/ed excel model). English Language Requirement: TOEFL - 68 on the internet-based test; TOEFL - 520 on the paper-based test; ITEP - 4.0 (academic plus only); IELTS - 6.0.
