A specialization in Forest Resources Management emphasizes the multi-faceted and complex aspects of managing and protecting the world's forests and natural resources. Students gain exciting hands-on experience employing creative, sustainable solutions for many of the problems associated with renewable forest resources.
What will I study?
Courses emphasize skills in tree identification, forest ecology and ecosystems, fire management, forest measurements, silviculture, watershed management and forest economics.
Students also gain advanced field experience in forest resource management in both the Appalachian and Central Hardwoods forests and may take on additional coursework in wildlife ecology and management.
Our curriculum is accredited by the Society of American Foresters.

Academic Requirements (grade point averages are on a 4.0 scale and are calculated by SIU): 26 credits or more at another college/university - submit college/university transcripts showing a GPA of 2.0 or greater on all coursework; 0-25 credits at another college/university - submit high school AND university/college transcripts showing 2.0 GPA on all coursework; 5 Passes on the GCE O or A level exams (under the Cambridge/ed excel model). English Language Requirement: TOEFL - 68 on the internet-based test; TOEFL - 520 on the paper-based test; ITEP - 4.0 (academic plus only); IELTS - 6.0.
