A specialization in Crop Production & Management [Science or General] focuses on the challenges of producing and managing crop systems, using both organic and conventional methods.
What will I study?
Our innovative courses combine both the traditional and molecular approaches to germplasm development and teach holistic approaches to crop production by integrating the disciplines of plant pathology, entomology and weed science.
Classes such as breeding, biotechnology, plant pathology, pest and weed management, crop management and protection, the biology of plant-microbe interactions and soil science provide students with a solid foundation and in-demand skill sets for a successful career.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Our solid academic specialization in Crop Production and Management [Science, General, Environmental] launches exciting careers in biotechnology, seed or plant industries, agro-chemical industries and governmental agencies such as the Illinois/U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (Agricultural Research, Forest, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Services).
Graduates find plenty of rewarding crop-related jobs and have no difficulty finding work.

Academic Requirements (grade point averages are on a 4.0 scale and are calculated by SIU): 26 credits or more at another college/university - submit college/university transcripts showing a GPA of 2.0 or greater on all coursework; 0-25 credits at another college/university - submit high school AND university/college transcripts showing 2.0 GPA on all coursework; 5 Passes on the GCE O or A level exams (under the Cambridge/ed excel model). English Language Requirement: TOEFL - 68 on the internet-based test; TOEFL - 520 on the paper-based test; ITEP - 4.0 (academic plus only); IELTS - 6.0.
