Learn how to build mutually beneficial relationships between clients and their significant publics through ethical communication and attention to diversity and inclusion
Get involved with the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) (we have one of the oldest PRSSA chapters in the country)
Obtain hands-on experience through internships and engage in professional networking events
The specialization in public relations has been designed according to curricular guidelines from the Public Relations Society of America. It emphasizes strong writing, speaking, research, planning, and management skills and makes you familiar with the wide range of disciplines that make up the public relations field. In addition to courses in the Department of Communication Studies, courses in other departments such as marketing, journalism, psychology, management, and political science, will prepare you for specific career objectives. You can obtain public relations experience while you are a student at SIUC through practicum or internship opportunities arranged with administrative offices at SIUC, with area businesses, or through student organizations such as the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) and the student PR agency, Pyramid Public Relations. You can also avail of professional networking opportunities through conferences and other professional events.

為來自中國的學生設(shè)計 Students must have completed a high school or equivalent. Academic Requirements (grade point averages are on a 4.0 scale and are calculated by SIU): 26 credits or more at another college/university - submit college/university transcripts showing a GPA of 2.0 or greater on all coursework; 0-25 credits at another college/university - submit high school AND university/college transcripts showing 2.0 GPA on all coursework; 5 Passes on the GCE O or A level exams (under the Cambridge/ed excel model). English Language Requirement: TOEFL - 68 on the internet-based test; TOEFL - 520 on the paper-based test; ITEP - 4.0 (academic plus only); IELTS - 6.0.
