在這里學(xué)什么？
The purpose of this degree is to provide preparation for students who wish to pursue a career in composition, and/or to prepare students who wish to teach music theory and/or composition at the university level for graduate study. To achieve this objective, the following goals have been established.
Students must demonstrate: competency in musical analysis, including independent analytical thinking (as evidenced through discussion and writing); ability to use the necessary tools supporting theoretical work (keyboard skills, research skills, technological skills); capability of working independently to solve theoretical/compositional problems; a firm grasp of compositional approaches (including an understanding of contemporary music and respective compositional techniques, knowledge of a variety of styles and media, and adequate command of notation and scoring); conceptual ability to develop a composition from initial idea to finished piece; a foundation in electronic/computer-informed composition; evolution of an artistic identity.
Students must demonstrate their competence in meeting the above goals by developing a senior portfolio and presenting a recital of their own works.

為來(lái)自中國(guó)的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Students must have completed a high school or equivalent. Academic Requirements (grade point averages are on a 4.0 scale and are calculated by SIU): 26 credits or more at another college/university - submit college/university transcripts showing a GPA of 2.0 or greater on all coursework; 0-25 credits at another college/university - submit high school AND university/college transcripts showing 2.0 GPA on all coursework; 5 Passes on the GCE O or A level exams (under the Cambridge/ed excel model). English Language Requirement: TOEFL - 68 on the internet-based test; TOEFL - 520 on the paper-based test; ITEP - 4.0 (academic plus only); IELTS - 6.0.
