OVERVIEW
Our MSc Logistics and Supply Chain Management course provides you the opportunity to study all aspects of logistics and supply chain management, covering the range of activities associated with the efficient flow and storage of goods, services and related information. It equips you with the specialist knowledge and training to design and manage effective logistics and supply chain systems, creating managerial opportunities in the public and private sectors.
Career Prospects
Employment possibilities for qualified supply chain managers include government agencies, consultancy firms (supply chain management), manufacturing and retailing companies, transport companies, and local authorities’ planning and transport departments. UWS graduates have found employment with Toyota UK, Vestas (renewable energies), Rawlplug, The Edrington Group, Premier Foods, HP, BAE Systems, NHS Scotland, Carrefour, European consultancy groups, and other national and international companies.
WHY LOGISITICS?
In today’s highly competitive and global marketplace the pressure on organisations to find new ways to create and deliver value to customers grows ever stronger. Logistics is a term widely used in business for a range of activities associated with the efficient and effective flow and storage of goods, services, and related information from a point of origin to the point of consumption in response to consumer requirements.
Management of these activities has been revolutionised over the past twenty years, by addressing logistical issues through an extended perspective of the supply chain that incorporates concepts from several management disciplines, such as:
- Strategy formation
- Theory of the firm
- Logistics
- Manufacturing management
- Management accounting
- Markets research
- Operations research
Teaching & Assessment
The delivery of taught modules involves a combination lectures, tutorials, seminars and computer laboratory work. Scheduled learning is approximately 30% of the overall effort required for taught modules.
