Delivered by highly experienced practitioners in musical performance, this course offers access from first year onwards to training in singing or instrumental performance and students will have opportunities to engage with one of the most extensive musical performance programmes in the UK.
All students can opt to audition for our six orchestras, nine other large ensembles, five choirs and more than 70 small ensembles, and to take part in performance work on campus, within the region and on regular overseas tours.
This is a flexible degree where you will select coordinated modules from our departments which allow you to explore themes, critical, and theoretical modes of analysis, and a whole world of musical, cultural, and historical texts.
- Across the degree you will develop your skills as an independent researcher in a supportive environment, focusing on the issues you find interesting and important.
- In the final year research projects you will focus this experience with our expert advice in your own exploration of these varied topics.
- You will have the opportunity, in your second year, to spend time at one of our international partner institutions, to further broaden the scope of your work.
- The degree is taught in collaboration between our Music and History departments, which work closely together and share a belief in interdisciplinary research.
