Northern's Bachelor of General Studies degree is an option for you if you've earned a significant number of credits toward a degree, but wish to change your program of study.
Northern's Bachelor of General Studies (BGS) degree is an option for you if you've earned a significant number of credits toward a degree, but wish to change your program of study. To pursue a BGS degree, you must have a 2.0 GPA.
Flexible
The BGS program is flexible - you might say it allows you to design your own degree. The program delivers the academic expertise required for a broad range of occupations, while allowing you to follow your passion.
The BGS allows you to tailor your program of study to fit a variety of interests.
The General Studies AA degree is available on the NSU campus, online and in Huron, S.D.
Convenient
The BGS is convenient for students who:
- Are upperclassmen
- Have taken time off from school
- Are in the workforce and would like to enhance their professional opportunities with a degree
- Wish to design a well-rounded, diverse, yet formal educational experience

為來(lái)自中國(guó)的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Applicants to NSU must: Rank in the top 60 percent of their high school graduating class; or achieve an ACT composite score of 18 or above; SAT score of 950 or SAT Reasoning Test Math and Critical Reading sub scores total of 870 or above or Earn a GPA of at least 2.6 on a 4.0 scale in all high school courses and complete the following required courses with a cumulative grade of "C" or higher (GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale): Four years of English or ACT English sub-test score of 18 or above or AP English score of 3 or above; Three years of advanced mathematics: Or ACT math sub-test score of 20 or above or AP calculus score of 3 or above; Three years of laboratory science or ACT science reasoning sub-test score of 17 or above or AP science score of 3 or above. English Language Requirements: TOEFL IBT (61-70 or above); TOEFL PBT (525 or above); IELTS (5.5 or above); PTE Academic (41 or above).
