Northern's communication studies students learn to understand and practice communication, developing insight into and ability in effective expression and listening.
In this compact, agile communications program, we'll help you tailor experiences and projects to your special needs and interests.
Our communication studies degree also prepares you for professional schools in law, journalism, public relations, and organizational communication; or graduate studies in speech communication, rhetoric, public relations, mass media, and others.
You can also test your abilities and sharpen your competition skills on Northern's Speech and Debate team, which places competitively in state and regional meets and whose members have qualified for national competition.
Public Relations Emphasis
Public relations specialists read, research, write and speak well - they're doers who have a creative flair. NSU's Communication Studies program offers a focus on public relations, opening opportunities for students interested in preparing and sharing information to keep people informed.
CAREERS
The communication studies degree program provides a foundation for many careers. You'll learn the skills needed to obtain positions in business, industry, education and government service. Other potential career areas include sales and marketing; artists, broadcasters, editors, entertainers, public relations specialists and writers; and management- and administration-related occupations.
Public Relations
Public relations specialists work for private firms, educational institutions and government agencies, or are self-employed. They also have positions in sales and marketing or as artists, broadcasters, editors, entertainers, and writers, and work in management and administrative occupations.

為來自中國(guó)的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Applicants to NSU must: Rank in the top 60 percent of their high school graduating class; or achieve an ACT composite score of 18 or above; SAT score of 950 or SAT Reasoning Test Math and Critical Reading sub scores total of 870 or above or Earn a GPA of at least 2.6 on a 4.0 scale in all high school courses and complete the following required courses with a cumulative grade of "C" or higher (GPA of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale): Four years of English or ACT English sub-test score of 18 or above or AP English score of 3 or above; Three years of advanced mathematics: Or ACT math sub-test score of 20 or above or AP calculus score of 3 or above; Three years of laboratory science or ACT science reasoning sub-test score of 17 or above or AP science score of 3 or above. English Language Requirements: TOEFL IBT (61-70 or above); TOEFL PBT (525 or above); IELTS (5.5 or above); PTE Academic (41 or above).
