COURSE OVERVIEW
The Doctor of Education (EdD) is a forward-thinking, rigorous postgraduate research training programme for professional educators engaged in contexts from across the education and social welfare sectors – including school teachers, college lecturers, medical educators, social workers, and higher education staff.
The EdD aims to equip students with a range of core and generic skills in research that have practical application in their place of work. The aim of the EdD at the university has always been to produce a ‘researching professional’ able to make a real contribution to innovative professional practice in their professional context. Graduates of the EdD programme are able to work individually and collaboratively to refine research questions, design research projects, carry out data collection and analysis and present outcomes of the research through written reports and presentations. They have a sound and extending grasp of key educational theories, which inform their work and their study. They act as change agents in their educational settings, developing innovative curricular approaches, and supporting the development of colleagues in their specialist areas of work. Graduates from these programmes are rigorous academics, questioning and challenging practice and developing new thoughts and ideas to create real change in their spheres of education and practice.
