The master’s education program in speech-language pathology at SUNY Plattsburgh is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
What Will I Learn?
Our two-year program prepares you for licensure as a clinical speech-language pathologist or teacher of children with speech or language disabilities. Our program is accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and meets the academic and graduate clinical clock-hour requirements for ASHA CCC, and teacher certification and licensure in New York State (and most other states), and membership in the various provincial corporations in Canada.
You’ll gain clinical experience in a variety of settings and work with faculty who are experts in their area of study and you will be prepared to work in any professional setting.
Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in a different field may prepare for application to a speech-language pathology graduate program by completing with the communication sciences and disorders certificate program.
What is Unique About Our Program?
The small graduate class size allows for individual attention and promotes class cohesion and individualized learning. The on-campus clinic offers a diverse range of clinical experiences across the life span. Professors also supervise clinic, which provides continuity between classroom and therapy room. You will learn cutting-edge information from expert clinicians and researchers. You will be able to choose between a wide variety of clinical placements in the U.S. and Canada. Our learning facilities give you access to the tools you need, including smart classrooms, a comprehensive range of recent assessment materials, our anatomy lab and a voice and speech science lab. Over 20-year history of exclusive affiliation with University of Vermont Health Network at Champlain Valley Physicians’ Hospital with experiences including:
Outpatient and inpatient dysphagia Video fluoroscopy Fiber optic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES) Outpatient pediatrics Outpatient and inpatient adult neurogenetics
Master’s thesis option. Graduate assistantships within the department Volunteer opportunities to participate in ongoing faculty research The Communication Sciences and Disorders Department holds at least one continuing education event for students and local professionals per year and is recognized by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association as an approved continuing education provider.
What Are My Career Opportunities?
Speech-pathologists are able to work in a variety of settings, including schools, hospitals, early intervention settings, private practice, long-term care facilities and universities.
The communication sciences and disorders program at SUNY Plattsburgh provides an academic and clinical professional education for students whose primary goal is to serve children and adults who have impairments of communication and swallowing. The program has a proud history of preparing qualified speech-language pathologists and audiologists in the field of communication disorders and sciences.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 Applicants must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution; a grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. International students must meet all the requirements for admission to the graduate programs specified above. In addition, they must have a TOEFL score of 550 PBT, 83 IBT or 7.5 IELTS.
