專業(yè)概況
在這里學(xué)什么?
Complete a content-area major (in biology, chemistry, earth science, English, mathematics, physics, social studies or Spanish) and then a 42-credit program of education courses in preparation for teacher certification.
What Will I Learn?
You will learn to meet the educational needs of adolescents in a dynamic world. This includes the interrelationship between academic content, pedagogical application, continued learning, and the moral and political considerations of working with adolescents.
What is Unique About Our Program?
Professional certification: You will be eligible for initial certification immediately upon graduation. After three years of teaching, you will be eligible for professional certification. Undergraduate degree: Earn a professional degree in geology, history, English, chemistry, etc. (in case you decide not to teach). Dual advisors: Benefit from two academic advisors — one in the adolescence education department and one in your liberal arts concentration. Peace of mind: Once employed as a New York State teacher, you don’t have to worry about completing a master’s degree at night or during the summers within five years. Save money: Save money by paying undergraduate tuition rates for the first 12 graduate credits. Qualifications: Be considered a much more qualified candidate for a teaching position than a person with a four year degree. Graduates will have a professional degree with extensive education courses at the graduate level. Hireability: Many school districts prefer to hire teachers who already have a master’s. Student teaching options: Participate in field experience in various geographic areas extending from the Canadian border to Malone, NY and south to the Glens Falls, Albany, and New York City regions. Accreditation: Graduate from an accredited teacher education program.
What Are My Career Opportunities?
Professional opportunities for adolescence education majors have never been greater. The graying of educators combined with an increasing number of children and a decrease in class size has created a shortage of teachers in most of the United States. In particular, most states cannot adequately staff math, science and foreign language classes at the middle and high school level.
