Many people believe that philosophy, as the preeminent liberal art, is worth studying for its own sake. You might study philosophy because it helps you understand yourself, and other people, as you prepare for your career and life in the world. You might choose to major in philosophy simply because you enjoy thinking philosophically. Whatever brings you to philosophy, our program allows you to pursue your academic interests — wherever they might lead.
What Will I Learn?
The ethics and social philosophy option allows you to learn about ethical theory and social and political philosophy; take courses in topics such as environmental ethics, business ethics, ethics and animals; and gain a strong foundation in philosophy while maximizing the flexibility to pursue your own interests in philosophy, and in allied fields.

What is Unique About Our Program?
The Philosophy Department faculty members are dedicated to their teaching and to undergraduate students. They are enthusiastic about advising students and helping them progress through their studies and program. Outside of class, the faculty engage students in lively discussions about philosophical issues, and they involve them in their research projects. Students are encouraged to explore their own interests, and to follow connections to other disciplines such as literature, art, psychology, anthropology, computer science, history, among others.
