Wichita State’s Master of Education (MEd) in special education combines quality, accredited instruction with opportunities for research and applied learning in Kansas’ largest school district leading to high-demand careers in a variety of settings.
The endorsement in special education - low incidence at Wichita State University prepares educators for teaching students with moderate to severe disabilities. The program is designed to develop reflective practitioners who possess both theoretical understanding and practical skills related to:
- The field of special education for students with functional learning needs,
- Effective communication and collaboration, and
- Research-validated practices.
The special education - low incidence program prepares professional practitioners to make curricular and instructional modifications in order to facilitate successful student learning.
The program offers multiple specializations. Most students work full time, completing their degree in the evening through our fully online format. The program is excellent preparation for doctorate-level study in education.
Curriculum
The low incidence program curriculum comprises 30 credit hours and prepares you to work with students with moderate to severe disabilities. The program combines coursework, practical experience and a capstone project or thesis.
Candidates may complete only the first 23 credit hours to receive an endorsement in low incidence education. These candidates are considered non-degree-seeking graduate students.

為來自中國的學生設計 Applicants for full-standing degree admission to the specialist and master’s programs typically must have: Earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or a recognized institution in another country whose requirements for the bachelor’s degree are substantially equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree. The minimum acceptable scores for most programs are: TOEFL - 79 on the Internet-based test, or 550 on the paper-based test. IELTS - minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required. PTE Academic - 58.
