Wichita State’s Master of Education (MEd) in special education - high incidence alternative certification program - provides paraprofessionals holding a bachelor’s degree outside of the field of education with a route to becoming a special education teacher of record. This fully online program prepares reflective practitioners who possess both theoretical understanding and practical skills for teaching students with mild to moderate disabilities.
The program prepares reflective practitioners who possess both theoretical understanding and practical skills for teaching students with mild to moderate disabilities. Candidates receive preparation to support them in meeting teacher licensure requirements in the first 30–31 credit hours (two years). Students must complete an additional 7 credit hours for the MEd degree. Candidates must continue full-time employment as a special education teacher while completing their coursework. Loss of employment or continuous improvement will result in dismissal from the program.
Curriculum
The high incidence alternative certification program curriculum comprises 37-38 credit hours of online coursework and prepares you to work with students with mild to moderate disabilities. The program combines coursework, practical experience and a capstone project or thesis.

為來自中國的學生設計 Applicants for full-standing degree admission to the specialist and master’s programs typically must have: Earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or a recognized institution in another country whose requirements for the bachelor’s degree are substantially equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree. The minimum acceptable scores for most programs are: TOEFL - 79 on the Internet-based test, or 550 on the paper-based test. IELTS - minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required. PTE Academic - 58.
