Wichita State’s Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) allows you to develop a plan of study that combines coursework from more than one department to better meet your specific interests and career goals. All students complete intensive work in two or three areas of study and become familiar with interdisciplinary research theories and methods.
Curriculum
The MALS program requires the completion of:
- A minimum of 36 credit hours
- No more than 12 credit hours from any one department
- A maximum of 12 credit hours in a college other than liberal arts and sciences
- At least 22 credit hours in courses numbered 700 or above
- LAS 800 – Research Goals/Strategies
- A master’s thesis or terminal project
Applied Learning
Students in the Master of Arts in Liberal Studies program are required to complete an applied learning or research experience to graduate from this program. The requirement can be met by successfully completing either LASI 875 Thesis; or 6 credit hours of LASI 885 Terminal Project.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) Applicants for full-standing degree admission to the specialist and master’s programs typically must have: Earned a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution or a recognized institution in another country whose requirements for the bachelor’s degree are substantially equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree. The minimum acceptable scores for most programs are: TOEFL - 79 on the Internet-based test, or 550 on the paper-based test. IELTS - minimum overall band score of 6.5 is required. PTE Academic - 58.
