Wichita State’s Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English teaches - Secondary Schools focused on the academic disciplines of the English language, literature and effective teaching. Graduates are well prepared for careers as certified teachers in grades 6-12. The program combines classroom learning and real-world teaching experience in Kansas’ largest school district.
Curriculum
The English curriculum comprises 33 credit hours in language, composition and literature. The teaching curriculum is taken in the College of Education and combines classes on campus and teaching internships in USD 259 schools.
Students must file a declaration of English teaching major with an assigned English-education advisor at the time they apply to the teacher education program. A 2.500 grade point average in English is required of all majors applying for admission to the professional semester of student teaching in middle and secondary school English.
