The goals of the education department are to develop educators who are academically competent, experienced, prepared, understand the need for both art and science in education and have effective classroom management.
Southern Utah University's Master of Education, designed from the ground-up to offer current teachers the opportunity to further their careers. This program, which is CAEP-accredited, allows teachers to gain the certification they need without sacrificing flexibility. Professionals with extensive teaching credentials instruct graduate students, often using 21st century technologies to bring innovation to the classroom. This approach has led to certifications with the NBPTA, ISLLC, and the Utah Effective Teaching Standards group, which makes SUU graduates competitive outside of the intermountain west.
Endorsement/Specialization Availability
With an approved USBE endorsement, candidates may earn an endorsement with their Master of Education degree. See department advisor for details.
Emphasis in Special Education
Candidates may earn an emphasis in Special Education with their Master of Education degree that leads to a Level 1 Utah professional teaching license in mild/moderate disabilities K-12. See department advisor for details. This option does not require teaching experience.
