The Speech Pathology and Audiology major provides the undergraduate coursework set by the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and by the American Academy of Audiology (AAA) that are common prerequisites for students interested in pursuing graduate studies in either Speech Pathology or Audiology. In addition to the requirements of the major, there are suggested sequences of electives that enhance and support the major coursework. Suggested elective sequences serve to help students delve into a particular aspect of the major. Students will acquire a minimum of 25 hours observing ASHA certified and state licensed Speech and Language Pathologists and/or Audiologists through required or elective coursework. These observational experiences, chosen by the student, will take place in hospitals, schools, programs for children with special needs, rehabilitation centers, clinics, elder care facilities, and private practices.
