The Bachelor of Sciences in Health Sciences with a concentration in Health Systems Leadership—Information Systems (HSL—IS) is designed for students who want to become leaders in health systems. This track provides students with hands-on, applicable skills, as well as opportunities to develop their skills in the real world through internships in the healthcare field. Students majoring in Health Systems Leadership will be eligible for certification both as Certified Professional Coders and Certified Professional Billers, and can apply for a variety of jobs such as Medical and Health Service Managers, Medical Billing and Coding, Health Information Technician.
Concentration Objectives
To be able to fulfill the requirements of a Bachelor Degree in Health Sciences with a concentration in Health Systems Leadership- Information Systems (HSL-IS) and promote the overall program goals, graduates of the Health Sciences degree at Indiana University South Bend will be able to:
- possess the entry-level skills for success in the rapidly changing health care environment
- document and decipher the electronic medial record
- process and submit medical billing and coding information
- obtain jobs in data analytics, coding and billing specialists, and HIM workflow processors

English Language Requirements: Minimum TOEFL score of 71 or higher on the internet-based; TOEFL score 530 or higher paper-based exam; IELTS - 6.0 or higher; Pearson Test of English, Academic: 48 or higher; WAEC's Senior Secondary Certificate of Examinations (SSCE): A or B; Ordinary Level Certificate: A or B; Cambridge International O Levels: C or higher; (Test in Practical English Proficiency) "EIKEN": Pre-1 or higher.
