Integrated New Media Studies (INMS) at Indiana University South Bend is a uniquely interdisciplinary academic program of excellence in the rapidly developing field of new media. The computer and computer technologies are at the core of our program, the means of preparation, production, exhibition, application, and distribution. Our mission is to educate our students in a wide range of new media professional, creative, and critical/aesthetic skills, techniques, processes, and procedures applicable to careers in art, communication, business, industry, government, and the professions.
The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Integrated New Media Studies with a Concentration in Informatics offers preparation in new media production skills plus Informatics based skills in coding, programming, and human-computer interaction design. Building on History and Aesthetics and Core Studies, students train in informatics, web programming, information infrastructure, interface design and programming, and multimedia technology. Fifteen credits of free electives provide space to expand on the student's Informatics Concentration, to pursue a minor,or explore other areas.
Students receiving the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree must complete 120 total credit hours including:
- IU South Bend Campuswide General Education Curriculum (36 cr.) to include
- INMS-A 399 Art, Aesthetics, and Creativity
- VT: The Artist and New Media (Art, Aesthetics, and Creativity)
- JOUR-J 210 Visual Communication (Visual Literacy)
- MUS-T 190 Literary and Intellectual Traditions
- VT: Exploring Musical Genres: Classical Music and Beyond (Literary and Intellectual Traditions)
- Major Requirements (63 cr.)
- Electives (15 cr.)
- World Language Requirement (6 cr.)

English Language Requirements: Minimum TOEFL score of 71 or higher on the internet-based; TOEFL score 530 or higher paper-based exam; IELTS - 6.0 or higher; Pearson Test of English, Academic: 48 or higher; WAEC's Senior Secondary Certificate of Examinations (SSCE): A or B; Ordinary Level Certificate: A or B; Cambridge International O Levels: C or higher; (Test in Practical English Proficiency) "EIKEN": Pre-1 or higher.
