Our interdisciplinary program focuses on media skills with business and sport communication components. New media technology and marketing skills are combined to meet the demands of a changing marketplace.
The sport marketing and media program will prepare you for a career in:
Sport marketing
Collegiate sports information
Advertising
Public relations
Social media marketing
Arena and sports facility management
Merchandising
Sports media outlets
You will choose from courses in the Departments of Media & Journalism, Beacom School of Business marketing program, School of Education kinesiology and sport management program and the Department of Communication Studies.
Major Requirements (17 credit hours)
MCOM 244 - Introduction to Sport Marketing & Media
MCOM 444 - Sport Marketing & Media
Take one of the following courses:
MCOM 243 - Public Relations Principles
MCOM 370 - Advertising Principles (C)
Take one of the following courses:
KSM 450 - Sport Facility & Event Management
MCOM 440 - Event Marketing and Management

English language requirements: TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) - 71 or higher (iBT); 530 or higher (paper test); IELTS (International English Language Testing System) - 5.5 or higher; ACT or SAT - ACT English 18+ OR SAT Evidence-based Reading and Writing 500+; USD Intensive English Program (IEP) Successful completion of USD’s Intensive English Program Level 3; ELS Language Center Successful completion of the ELS English for Academic Purposes level 112; Cambridge International Examinations - English subject A-Level with C or higher; International Baccalaureate (IB) - IB English A (4 or higher) or IB English B (6 or higher).
