B.A. degree program in speech is recommended that majors in the Communication Arts, Sciences, and Disorders department meet with an adviser in the first year of studies.
Students may not offer more than six credits for a baccalaureate degree from Communication Arts, Sciences, and Disorders 4270, 5271, 5272, and 5273.
The Speech Communication Arts and Sciences Core consists of the following items, 1 through 4.
- Communication Arts, Sciences, and Disorders 1608 or 1619 or 4666.
- Communication Arts, Sciences, and Disorders 1113.
- Communication Arts, Sciences, and Disorders 1714 or 1715 or 1717.
- Communication Arts, Sciences, and Disorders 5275W.
Majors must complete the course requirements in one of the following areas.
Communication Studies (27 credits)
Oral Interpretation (24 credits). This area is currently not available to students pursuing the BA in speech.
Student Learning Outcomes
- To obtain a fundamental understanding of the theories, concepts, research, and process of speech communication in intercultural interactions
- To obtain a fundamental understanding of the theories, concepts, research, and process of speech communication in social and personal relationships
- To obtain a fundamental understanding of the theories, concepts, research, and process of assessment of individuals with various communication disorders
- To obtain a fundamental understanding of the theories, concepts, research, and process of specific intervention of individuals with various communication disorders
- To obtain a fundamental understanding of the theories, concepts, research, and process of hearing-testing of individuals with a hearing impairment
- To obtain a fundamental understanding of the theories, concepts, research, and process of remediation of individuals with hearing disorders.
