Become your own passport to greater global awareness with the ability to communicate in the Spanish language and understand its culture. Because nothing builds language skills like immersion in another culture, SUNY Cortland offers study abroad opportunities in many Spanish-speaking countries. Your degree will give you a solid foundation for a career in international business or other professions.

Business: International trade, bilingual consultant, translator, customer support agent
Government: Diplomat, FBI agent, National Security Agency, Border Patrol, immigration agent, government or court translator
Writing: Newspapers, trade publications, book publishers, bilingual translator for websites, proofreaders, writer, editor
Tourism and hospitality: Interpreter, guide, bilingual travel agent, study abroad coordinator or director
Education: Teaching in private schools or in the private sector, pursue master’s and/or doctoral degrees to become a college professor

Preparation for freshman candidates should include the following: English: 4 units, Social Studies: 4 units, Mathematics: 3-4 units, Science: 3-4 units, Foreign Language: 3-4 units. English Language Requirements: TOEFL - 79; IELTS - Band 6.5; EIKEN, Pre-1.
