A transition specialist helps families navigate the frequently murky waters of special education. As students age out of facilities, it's not always easy to find resources to make an informed decision about the future. An expert who not only recognizes an individual's special needs but also his or her legal rights is an indispensable resource to families. If helping people at a crossroads sounds like a rewarding and fulfilling career, Transition Programing is the major for you.
WHY CHOOSE TRANSITION SPECIALIST?
SRU has been a regional leader in Special Education. As a Transition Programing major, you will have the opportunity to learn and work closely with faculty members that present research and scholarly work at the state, national, and international levels.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
At SRU, you will gain the expertise you need to be an effective resource to families of individuals with special needs. The opportunity to observe classrooms, agencies, and community programs will give you an accurate picture of the services available. Coursework will give you knowledge in disabilities rights, identifying strengths and needs through assessments, and developing transition goal plans. You will apply your knowledge in the transition internship, in which you will work with individuals with disabilities in a school or program.
CAREERS IN TRANSITIONAL SPECIALIST
As a graduate with a degree in Transition Programming, you will be well-prepared to obtain employment in school districts, agencies, and non-profit organizations that provide services for individuals with disabilities across the lifespan.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 International applicants who have not enrolled in any post secondary institution since graduating high school should apply as freshmen. Advanced standing may be considered for those students who have completed IB programs, GCE A-levels (advanced or advanced subsidiary) examinations. English language requirements: Applicants must score a minimum of 61 on the internet based test (iBT), a minimum of 500 on the written test or a minimum of a 173 on the computer based test. Applicants must receive an overall IELTS score at band 6.0 or above.
