SRU offers both a major and a minor in Sociology.
WHY CHOOSE SOCIOLOGY?
With a solid understanding of the principles of sociology, you will have the tools with which to understand the causes and consequences of social interactions and social change. Our faculty and curriculum are focused on bringing concepts into practical applications and everyday situations. With the knowledge you'll gain through your coursework, you'll find yourself find yourself in a position to effect change in the context of your job, your family, or any other area.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
You will gain an understanding of how individual behavior is affected by social interaction, organizations, and societies. You will learn about:
Basic theory and principles of sociology
Principles of urban sociology
The effects of race and ethnic diversity in society
Statistics for the social sciences
The effects of growing population on society
How cultural norms, values, and beliefs shape peoples' choices
CAREERS IN SOCIOLOGY
The position "Sociologist" does not appear much in job searches. However, many employers consider a background in sociology to be extremely beneficial. Sociology graduates can find variety of opportunities in business and the human services.
They work in federal, state, and local agencies dealing with criminal justice, education, transportation, and health and human services. They also work in business and industry in such areas as personnel, marketing and product testing, and development.
At SRU, the sociology program curriculum prepares its graduates to enter into the market in various capacities, or pursue their education at graduate levels. More specifically, an emphasis in sociology will prepare you for jobs in the following areas:

為來自中國的學生設(shè)計 International applicants who have not enrolled in any post secondary institution since graduating high school should apply as freshmen. Advanced standing may be considered for those students who have completed IB programs, GCE A-levels (advanced or advanced subsidiary) examinations. English language requirements: Applicants must score a minimum of 61 on the internet based test (iBT), a minimum of 500 on the written test or a minimum of a 173 on the computer based test. Applicants must receive an overall IELTS score at band 6.0 or above.
