The Middle Level Education: Social Studies program will prepare you to teach social studies—as well as English language arts, mathematics, and science to grades 4-6. You'll also be qualified to teach social studies to students in 7th and 8th grade.

If you have a passion for education and want to help shape young minds, the SRU Middle Level Education: Social Studies program will prepare you for a rewarding career. You will learn how to design classroom instructions to meet students' specific needs and abilities, use the latest technology in teaching, and work with students from various ethnic, racial, and religious backgrounds. SRU is an NCATE / CAEP accredited institution, and teachers in the field regularly comment on how prepared SRU students are for the classroom.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
In the SRU Middle Level Education: Social Studies program, you'll take professional education courses such as:
Middle level learning theory
Pre, early, & adolescent development
Educational measurements, assessment and evaluation
Teaching in the middle level grades
Using the standards recommended by the National Council for the Social Studies and the Pennsylvania Department of Education, you'll learn a range of teaching methods and tools, including:
Assessment
Determining your personal philosophy of education
Lesson planning
Multiple intelligences
Skills development
Utilizing information technology
CAREERS IN MIDDLE LEVEL EDUCATION: SOCIAL STUDIES
As a graduate of SRU's Middle Level Education: Social Studies program, you'll be qualified to teach social studies to students in grades 4-8 in Pennsylvania and in other states. SRU's Department of Secondary Education also works closely with the Office of Career Education and Development to help you throughout the job search process to secure meaningful employment.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計(jì) International applicants who have not enrolled in any post secondary institution since graduating high school should apply as freshmen. Advanced standing may be considered for those students who have completed IB programs, GCE A-levels (advanced or advanced subsidiary) examinations. English language requirements: Applicants must score a minimum of 61 on the internet based test (iBT), a minimum of 500 on the written test or a minimum of a 173 on the computer based test. Applicants must receive an overall IELTS score at band 6.0 or above.
