Slippery Rock University's Bachelor of Science in Computing with a concentration in Computer Science teaches students how to program, configure servers, create applications, and more! The Computer Science concentration emphasizes modern approaches to software and hardware development. You'll master abstract concepts, learn practical applications of theory, and gain exposure to the dynamic field of computing. This concentration prepares you for any number of careers in the computing field and also provides the foundation needed to pursue further graduate study.
WHY MAJOR IN COMPUTER SCIENCE?
Employment for computer programmers is projected to grow 8 percent from 2012 to 2022, and the median salary for a computer programmer was $72,480 in May 2012 (source: Occupational Outlook Handbook, Bureau of Labor Statistics.) The Computer Science concentration at SRU will provide a strong pathway into this high-demand profession. WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
In Slippery Rock University's Computer Science program, students build a solid foundation in computing, including
- Algorithm design and programming
- System modeling and analysis
- System efficiency and correctness assessment
- Effective user interface design
You'll learn from our expert faculty in a friendly and caring environment, and you'll have access to state-of-the-art computing equipment through our on-campus classrooms and labs. SRU features an AI/Robotics laboratory, an innovative tech lab, and three smart classrooms with work-stations. Classes in this program include Shell Commands and Scripting, Administration and Security, and Computer Systems.
CAREERS, CLUBS, AND INTERNSHIPS
Students in this program often get involved in our Computer Technology club and our computing honor society, Upsilon Pi Epsilon. Students also have opportunities to gain valuable experience through internships with companies such as Bayer Corporation, US Steel, and McKesson Robotics, and work with faculty members on research projects ranging from robotics to web graphics. Computer Science majors also have opportunities to take part in career workshops and mock interviews, and even shadow professionals in the field. Graduates go on to pursue careers as:

為來自中國的學生設計 International applicants who have not enrolled in any post secondary institution since graduating high school should apply as freshmen. Advanced standing may be considered for those students who have completed IB programs, GCE A-levels (advanced or advanced subsidiary) examinations. English language requirements: Applicants must score a minimum of 61 on the internet based test (iBT), a minimum of 500 on the written test or a minimum of a 173 on the computer based test. Applicants must receive an overall IELTS score at band 6.0 or above.
