在這里學(xué)什么?
Slippery Rock University's Chemistry major prepares students for careers as chemists through a demanding, proven, and integrated program. Chemistry majors receive hands-on experience with modern technology in our laboratories and work closely with faculty to conduct research. They even present their findings at national meetings across the country. Upon graduation, students are ready to enter the job market directly or to continue their education in a graduate or professional program.
WHY CHOOSE CHEMISTRY?
At SRU, our curriculum will provide you with the fundamental knowledge of the major fields of chemistry. You'll take courses designed to strengthen your understanding of organic, inorganic, analytical, physical, and biochemistry, creating a firm foundation upon which to specialize your studies.
Your lecture and laboratory courses will take place in modern facilities with small class sizes taught by faculty who are committed to individualized interaction. You'll conduct experiments that will give you experience with current synthetic and analytical techniques, and have opportunities to use a wide variety of instruments.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
SRU's program is certified by the American Chemical Society and will provide you with a broad-based and rigorous chemistry education. Our intensive program includes introductory, foundational, and in-depth coursework in chemistry and chemistry-related fields, including calculus, general physics, and lab work. Specific classes include Analytical Chemistry, Instrumental Analysis, and Polymer Chemistry.
Students also research a current topic of their choosing under the direction of a faculty supervisor. This project culminates in an ACS-style written report, giving majors real-world experience.
CAREERS, CLUBS, AND INTERNSHIPS
The job opportunities for graduates with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry are varied and some require additional coursework in given areas. To allow you to pursue your interests in the chemistry field, the department offers several specialty areas within the chemistry degree program. An ACS- certified degree will prepare you for careers in:
- Academia - graduate school or research institutions
- Art analysis and preservation
- Business and sales
- Drug design
- Industrial chemistry
- Medicine, pharmacy, pharmacology
- Patent law (after earning an M.S. and J.D)
- Political lobbying
Chemistry students at Slippery Rock have had success with interning at major organizations such as The Carnegie Science Center, The Pittsburgh Tissue Institute, and multiple universities. There are also opportunities for research through programs funded by the National Science Foundation. On campus, students can join the Chemistry Club, which plans events, trips, and more.
