Cytotechnologist is not a career you hear about all the time, but it is one of the most in demand positions in the field of biology. These highly skilled laboratory professionals have excellent job opportunities and security. At SRU, you'll spend 3 years studying in the classroom before spending one year at one of our affiliates: Fletcher Allen Health Care and the Albany Medical College where you will put what you've learned to work for you as you gain real world experience in the lab.
WHY CHOOSE BIOLOGY: CYTOTECHNOLOGY?
When you choose a major in Biology: Cytotechnology a SRU, you are choosing not only a solid foundation in general biology, but an in-depth course of study that will give you the competitive edge over others in the field.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
During three years on the SRU campus, you will earn 96 credit hours, which will expose you to the breadth of the field of biology, including botany, zoology, and genetics.
Your senior year is spent in 12 months of intensive training at an accredited hospital school of cytotechnology, where you are trained to collect and analyze specimens for early detection of cancer, and for other pathological conditions.
CAREERS IN BIOLOGY: CYTOTECHNOLOGY
The cytotechnology profession has been characterized by tremendous growth and expansion in the past decade. You will find yourself as a student of cytotechnology at a time when job opportunities abound, and students are in short supply. Most cytotechnologists work under the direct supervision of a pathologist in hospital laboratories.
Opportunities also exist in private clinics, in private industry, and in research laboratories. Your work as a cytotechnologist can be very rewarding, especially if you are interested in contributing to a dynamic, respected medical profession.

為來自中國的學生設計 International applicants who have not enrolled in any post secondary institution since graduating high school should apply as freshmen. Advanced standing may be considered for those students who have completed IB programs, GCE A-levels (advanced or advanced subsidiary) examinations. English language requirements: Applicants must score a minimum of 61 on the internet based test (iBT), a minimum of 500 on the written test or a minimum of a 173 on the computer based test. Applicants must receive an overall IELTS score at band 6.0 or above.
