專業(yè)概況
在這里學(xué)什么?
Learn how to transform ideas and artistic vision into reality on stage. You will graduate from this exciting program able to take artistic concepts, analyze them, and make important design and production decisions that make the difference to a full-scale theatrical production.
WHY CHOOSE THEATRE: DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY?
In this program, you will have the opportunity to apply and refine your classroom education in the environment of real-world theatrical production. You will use the same equipment and learn the same techniques and theory that professionals use in production. In addition, you will gain hands-on experience before you even graduate. As an upper-division Design and Technology student, you will be given a major design assignment for one of the department's four main stage productions each year.
Major, well-funded productions like Little Shop of Horrors and Macbeth are a proving ground for you to apply the skills you have learned in a fully realized theater production. Every other year, 16 theater students produce a work Festival Fringe in Edinburgh Scotland.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
At SRU, we believe in a well-rounded education. This means that in addition to core stagecraft classes, you will take classes in drawing, drafting, and all major theatrical design and technical areas, including scenic, costume design, lighting design and costume technology. You will gain skills in areas such as:
Analyzing scripts and characters
Researching and synthesizing information to produce original ideas
Developing and utilizing diverse construction methods and safe theatre practices
Working within deadlines and budget restraints
Learning and developing artistic and design skills
The department is also looking forward to the reopening of its home, Miller auditorium. When the facility is complete, it will be one of Pennsylvania's premier performing arts centers, packed with cutting edge technology where students can gain valuable experience.
CAREERS IN THEATRE
SRU Theatre Design and Technology graduates have designed, built and stage-managed productions internationally, in regional theatre and Off Broadway, as well as on film and television.
