專業(yè)概況
在這里學(xué)什么?
Working in the arts doesn't only mean performing. Often, it's what takes place backstage that determines whether a production will succeed or flop. Through the major in Arts Administration, you'll receive quality training that will prepare you for a career in management and support services for cultural agencies, institutions, and arts activities primarily in the theatre, not-for-profit sector.
WHY CHOOSE THEATRE: ARTS ADMINISTRATION?
Hands-on experience is often the differentiator when it comes to finding a job. At SRU, you'll have plenty of opportunities to put theory into practice by participating in the management and support services for the Theatre Department and the Kaleidoscope Arts Festival. SRU has excellent relationships with the Midwestern Arts and Humanities Foundation, the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council, UnSeam'd Shakespeare Company, and a number of other local and regional arts organizations and artists, providing you with opportunities for experience and training in addition to your coursework. In addition, every other year, 16 theater students produce a work at the world's largest international theatre festival, the Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland. You'll return from this program having been responsible for front-of-house and box office operations for a world premiere production on an international stage.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
You'll learn the basic principles, processes, and best practices relating to organizations in the arts industry such as
Audience development
Fundraising
Grant Writing
Nonprofit leadership
Production
Stagecraft
