Music therapy is an interpersonal process in which music is used to optimize health. As a music therapist, you'll help individuals with disabilities, illnesses, and unique needs to reach their potential and lead more satisfying lives.
Program Details
Music is our passion and we strive to help each student discover the transformative power of music along with us.
Program Outcomes
In the music therapy program, you will explore your personal relationship with music and develop professional skills, values, and attitudes necessary to conduct effective and compassionate clinical work with others. The program prepares you to assess client need and design individualized experiences in music composition, listening, improvisation, and performance. You will learn to evaluate and document therapeutic outcomes as a critical aspect of the treatment process.
Preclinical training in community and campus-based settings provides you with hands-on leadership experience. Volunteer service-learning, professional conferences, and research opportunities are readily available.
Our program prepares you for acceptance to an approved, intensive music therapy internship. Upon successful completion of the internship and subsequent board certification, you will be eligible to practice music therapy in a wide variety of educational, health, and mental health settings.
The University of Dayton is a fully accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music, and the music therapy curriculum is approved by the American Music Therapy Association.

Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE): A minimum score of 50 is required for full admission. Please note that many majors require a minimum score of 60.
