To provide a holistic, liberal education that integrates the study of human activity and the natural environment, the geography major at CCSU offers five specializations: Environmental, Geographic Information Science (GIS), Tourism, General/Regional, and Planning, plus subject concentration for Elementary Education certification and Secondary Education Certification in Social Studies. A secondary goal is to enable students to pursue a graduate degree in geography or seek employment in geography-related fields. Students who specialize in Environmental Geography will explore topics and concepts related to physical geography, such as climatology, sustainability of soils and vegetation, cartography, and environmental protection.
