Explore questions of criminal intent and the social implications of criminal behavior in the Criminology program. With coursework in criminal procedure, the court system, corrections, research methods, and beyond, the Criminology major prepares students for careers in criminal justice fields or for post-graduate study. Graduates have obtained employment at the federal, state, and local levels as adult or juvenile probation officers, investigators for public defenders' offices, community treatment facilitators, corrections officers, program evaluators, and court administrators. The program also provides continuing education for professionals already employed in the field.
Learning Outcomes
- Demonstrate knowledge regarding criminological theory, criminal justice system, causes of criminal behavior, and professional conduct.
- Develop an appreciation for the role of science in advancing knowledge in the field of criminology and criminal justice.
- Communicate in oral and written forms in a professional and articulate manner.
- Critically evaluate information and use sound, ethical judgment to solve practical problems in the field.
- Demonstrate an understanding of diverse populations and cultures, and how their experiences differ throughout the criminal justice system.
