The undergraduate bachelor’s degree programs in Political Science are intended to introduce students to key concepts and methods used in the study of politics and government. Through courses in American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, Political Philosophy, and Public Policy, students develop skills in communication, critical and analytical thinking, and a deeper understanding of their personal and social responsibilities. In addition, given the nature of the bachelor’s program at A&M-Commerce, students will learn essential research skills that will assist them in furthering their education should they decide to continue into graduate school and in any career they may wish to pursue upon graduation.
The Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science in Political Science is not career specific. Political Science graduates go to law school or to graduate school for further study in political science. Other career possibilities include government employment, business, teaching, and politics. Political science graduates are required to be knowledgeable about major paradigms in political theory, American politics, comparative politics, international relations, and research methods. The most important competencies are the ability to think clearly and critically, and to engage in effective communication.
