Enter the field of sonography with the best preparation possible. The Bachelor of Science in Medical Sonography degree puts you ahead of the competition and gets you ready for the national registry examination.
What you'll study: Your intensive sonography education begins after successful completion of 30 hours of prerequisites. You'll spend the next 27 months gaining exposure to all aspects of the field and taking laboratory courses in ultrasound, venous testing, and other types of sonography. Your second year of the medical sonography major involves immersion in practice through a clinical externship.
How you'll learn more: The clinical externship solidifies the skills and knowledge you will have acquired over two years. Along the way, highly credentialed faculty members guide your every step. You will be impressed by the technology used for practice, and our long list of clinical sites across the U.S. offers exceptional opportunities.
Where it can take you: Your friends might be jealous that they didn't choose the field of sonography because the prospects for secure employment are outstanding. But first you'll want a standard credential, and the NSU program prepares you for the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography exam. The Bachelor of Science in Medical Sonography’s mission is to educate and train students to ensure excellence in the clinical practice, research, and education for the patients they care for and the community they serve. Program Objectives: Minimum Expectations: "To prepare entry level general sonographers in the cognitive (knowledge) psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains" and "To prepare competent entry-level vascular technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains."
- To graduate competent Diagnostic Medical Sonographers in the General and Vascular modalities who are qualified to perform a variety of standard and specialized general and vascular diagnostic procedures.
- To ensure that graduates are qualified to take and successfully pass the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) registry examination in order to obtain the RDMS and RVT credentials.
- To prepare graduates for future leadership roles in general and vascular laboratories, ultrasound departments, education and industry.
- To enhance the student's academic skills for pursuing research studies in the field of general and vascular sonography
