The anthropology major is designed to give a global perspective on the comparative study of contemporary cultures and the evolution of human biological and cultural diversity over time. The Core Courses provide students with a combination of theoretical, methodological, applied and research design knowledge and skills that are the foundation of anthropology’s four fields. The Breadth Requirements ground students in all of the content areas that inform the anthropological quest to understand the essence of humanness. Electives allow them to continue in the four field tradition, or to explore one of the four fields in more depth.
The program includes opportunities for hands-on experience doing fieldwork in both local communities and abroad, and with anthropological collections including:
- contemporary and fossil ape and human skeletal materials,
- 2 to 10,000 year old stone tools from local Paleo-Indian sites,
- Tarahumara cultural artifacts from Mexico,
- prehistoric materials from Micronesia in the Pacific, and
- local historical artifacts dating from the early days of the university.
Careers in Anthropology
In the business world, anthropologists are employed to do international and multicultural training, product development and design, marketing, organizational culture research, strategic planning and management. Major corporations such as General Mills, Motorola, Inc., and General Motors employ full-time professional anthropologists in these and other capacities. Many anthropologists work as consultants in these areas as well.

TOEFL - 80 iBT or higher; 550 pBT or higher; IELTS - 6.5 overall band score or higher, ELS - Satisfactory completion of ELS 112, Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) - Advanced score of 176 or higher, Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE) - Score of 53 or higher.
