Fashion design education at Pratt is interdisciplinary in nature, where the study of fashion cross-pollinates with art and design disciplines and is grounded in visual and material studies. The practice of fashion is taught as one’s cultural embodiment within a social framework and learned through rigorous attention to production, craft, and contemporary aesthetics. Students build a vision and a language through conceptual processes, emphasizing curiosity, imagination, improvisation, and play. They communicate that vision through proficiency in construction and illustration skills, fluency with materials, traditional techniques, and digital technologies as well as synthesis of germane research. Interdisciplinary and collaborative classroom opportunities set the program apart, offering students tools and creative engagement beyond the fashion milieu.
The fashion design curriculum fosters development of individual identity within a collaborative environment, informed by self-reflection and engaged critique. A professionally active and accomplished faculty challenge students to seek beyond the conventional. Students are prompted to have an ongoing dialog between sketch, flat 2-D patternmaking, and 3-D drape; they are expected to work consistently, executing the fashion idea through the making of original and contemporary collections.
The Fashion Department offers a wide variety of elective and advanced courses on topics such as millinery, shoe design, fashion and video, zero-waste construction, tailoring techniques, jewelry design, leather and fur, and knitting to compliment the core curriculum. Toward that end, the department also supports international exchange and intensive summer study abroad programs.

為來自中國的學(xué)生設(shè)計 International applicants must submit official transcripts (academic records) of all secondary school studies as well as any post-secondary studies. A minimum TOEFL score of 79 (Internet); required IELTS score is 6.5; and required PTE is 53 for four-year programs.
