Public health promotes and protects the health of people and the communities where they live, learn, work and play. Using real-world cases, field work and practicum, students in Duquesne's public health program learn what it takes to improve health care globally.
Program Outcomes
- Understand of health promotion and disease prevention.
- Identify the interdisciplinary framework of public health and the contributions of varied disciplines to the understanding of and practices in public health.
- Explain the basic tenets of epidemiology including rates, risk factors, disease determinants, causation and surveillance methods.
- Describe how public health can determine interventions (health communication, social and behavioral) for improving population health.
- Explain the impact of the environment and communicable diseases on population health.
- Detail the role of public health in protecting vulnerable populations and those with health disparities.
- Understand environmental impacts on health.
- Discuss the importance of health literacy.

In general, undergraduate applicants are expected to obtain the U.S. equivalent of a minimum 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) for most majors. TOEFL iBT of 70 or above or IELTS of 6.0.
